Port-au-Prince, Haiti — Across communities facing instability and economic hardship, hope is taking root. Through a powerful partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (TAIWAN), World Vision Haiti is helping women, families, and local leaders gain the skills, tools, and confidence they need to rebuild their lives and create stronger futures.

At the heart of the initiative are women—especially women-headed households, including displaced and host families—who are stepping into new opportunities with determination and courage. Many began their journey by participating in hands-on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and business management training. These sessions gave women practical knowledge, renewed confidence, and clear steps to start or grow a small business. 435 women received a guide to support ongoing learning, and specialized start-up packages allowed them to launch or strengthen income-generating activities. To ensure lasting impact, teams followed up with households and facilitated the transport of essential goods, ensuring every woman could fully benefit. An advocacy workshop also brought men into the conversation, encouraging them to actively support women’s economic roles and leadership within the home and community. In total, 461 people took part in these empowering activities.

Families also found new strength through community savings groups, known as Savings for Transformation (S4T). These groups have become a lifeline for many, offering a safe space to save money, access small loans, and build financial stability together. Participants learned about the benefits of collective savings, joined newly formed groups or revitalized existing ones, and received guidance on managing funds and making informed financial decisions. Thanks to this initiative, 389 individuals now have access to a more secure and dignified path toward economic resilience.

A strong and safe community depends not only on individual households, but also on the leaders who guide them. That is why World Vision and MOFA invested in training local authorities and community protection committees. These leaders learned how to recognize and respond to gender-based violence, how to guide survivors through appropriate reporting channels, and how to support rights-based protections. They were also trained in community-based protection mechanisms and received regular, accessible updates about the project’s progress. Safe spaces were created for community members—especially women—to share concerns, feedback, or complaints through conversations, meetings, or calls. Through this capacity-building work, 597 local leaders and community members are now better equipped to foster safer, more inclusive environments.

“When women have the chance to learn, lead, and earn, entire communities rise with them,” said Dr. Lesly Michaud, Country Program Director of World Vision Haiti. “Our partnership with MOFA is opening doors for families who have faced unimaginable challenges, helping them not only survive, but thrive.”

World Vision Haiti invites partners, donors, and champions of community-driven change to join in expanding these efforts, ensuring women and families across Haiti continue to find strength, opportunity, and hope.
